GOAL rates the Chelsea players from their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal.
Chelsea, under new manager Liam Rosenior, started their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal with a shocking performance from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, leading to an early goal for Ben White. Despite visitor pressure, Chelsea only trailed by one at half-time. However, another goalkeeping error allowed Viktor Gyokeres to extend Arsenal's lead. Substitute Alejandro Garnacho scored twice, either side of a Martin Zubimendi strike for Arsenal, ensuring Chelsea still have hope but face a deficit in the return leg.
Robert Sanchez had a horrific game, flapping at a corner for White's easy header and failing to hold a low cross for Gyokeres' tap-in, earning a 2/10 despite one good save. Josh Acheampong (4/10) looked uncomfortable on the wing. Wesley Fofana (4/10) lacked leadership at the back. Trevoh Chalobah (3/10) struggled with Gyokeres' physicality and was wasteful in passing. Marc Cucurella (3/10) received a yellow card for a foul on Saka and lost their individual battle.
Andrey Santos (5/10), filling in for the suspended Caicedo, couldn't match his control against Arsenal's strong midfield duo. Enzo Fernandez (6/10) created a couple of chances but was largely outclassed. Joao Pedro (5/10) struggled to find good positions and didn't manage many shots before being substituted.
Estevao (7/10) was booked after an altercation but posed a significant threat when running at Timber. Marc Guiu (4/10) had minimal impact and was substituted for Garnacho. Pedro Neto (7/10) came alive in the second half, assisting Garnacho's first goal and looking dangerous in Chelsea's attacking movements.
Alejandro Garnacho (8/10) was the hero, scoring two goals to keep Chelsea alive in the tie. Benoit Badiashile (5/10) came on for Acheampong and was booked. Jorrel Hato (4/10) and Tosin Adarabioyo (4/10) were brought on to strengthen the defense but Chelsea remained vulnerable. Shumaira Mheuka (N/A) was a late introduction. Manager Liam Rosenior (6/10) saw his side concede from two catastrophic goalkeeping errors but can be pleased with Garnacho's impact in reducing the deficit.
