The Chiefs are waiving wide receiver Kadarius Toney, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday.
Less than two years after his iconic play in the Super Bowl, WR Kadarius Toney is among the players cut by the Kansas City Chiefs. His contributions included pivotal plays in their recent championship run, but he was unable to secure a stable position on the team due to injuries and performance issues.
The decision to waive Toney comes as the Chiefs finalize their roster ahead of the season. The team is looking to maintain depth in their receiving corps, with others like Mecole Hardman making the cut, while Toney's inconsistent performance in the last season raised concerns.
Toney joined the Chiefs in the middle of the 2022 season after being traded from the New York Giants. Despite his talent and a first-round draft pedigree, he struggled to maintain a significant role within the team's offense, catching only 27 passes last season.
Along with Toney, the Chiefs also waived several other players including Justyn Ross and Louis Rees-Zammit while making room for new acquisitions like tight end Peyton Hendershot from the Dallas Cowboys. The roster changes reflect the competitive nature of NFL preseason roster cuts.
