Gooey, chocolatey, delicious. Today's Google Doodle is all about s'mores. Here's why.
Why is Google celebrating s'mores?
The doodle celebrates the s'more — traditionally made with toasted marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers — because on this day (Sept. 9) in 1925, an article mentioned 'some-mores' as a new snack at Camp Andree, a national Girl Scout camp. The s'more first appeared in a 1920s-era cookbook and became popular among Girl Scouts who named it 'some more'.
When is National S'mores Day 2024?
National S'mores Day was celebrated on August 10, 2024. The origin of the date is unclear, but it aligns with the time when people typically go camping and make s'mores around campfires. About half of the marshmallows sold in summer are used for making s'mores.
What is a Google Doodle?
Google Doodles are special logos or illustrations that appear on Google's homepage to celebrate holidays, events, or notable figures. They are often interactive; for example, today's doodle allows users to engage with an animation featuring characters bringing ingredients for s'mores to a campfire.
