Japan's health ministry has approved five types of coronavirus vaccines for use in this season's campaign that starts on October 1.
Eligibility for the Vaccination Campaign
The campaign is intended for people aged 65 or older and those between 60 and 64 years old who are at a higher risk of developing severe COVID-19 symptoms.
Types of Approved Vaccines
The health ministry approved five types of vaccines. This includes a new replicon RNA vaccine capable of self-amplifying mRNA, three existing mRNA vaccines, and a recombinant protein vaccine.
Cost and Subsidy Details
The vaccination fee varies by municipality, supported by a government subsidy of 8,300 yen (approximately 58 dollars) per shot intended to cap copayments to under about 50 dollars.
Payment for Ineligible Individuals
Individuals who do not meet the eligibility criteria of the campaign will have to bear the full cost of the vaccinations.
