Giants will be without four starters in Week 17.
The New York Giants on Saturday officially ruled out starting center John Michael Schmitz (finger) and tight end Theo Johnson (illness) for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Both players did not travel with the team and will not play.
Schmitz, who was previously listed as doubtful, and Johnson join left tackle Andrew Thomas, safety Tyler Nubin, and defensive tackle D.J. Davidson as Giants players sidelined for Sunday's matchup, bringing the total to four starters out.
Theo Johnson, a second-year player and the Giants’ second-leading receiver with 45 receptions, will be missed. The team's tight end options for the game include Daniel Bellinger and Chris Manhertz from the 53-man roster, along with Tanner Conner, Zach Davidson, and Maximillian Mang from the practice squad.
Both the Giants and the Raiders currently hold identical 2-13 records and are on nine-game losing streaks. The outcome of their upcoming game will have significant implications, as the loser stands an excellent chance to secure the coveted No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
