The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded for Miami Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.
De La Cruz's Impact
Bryan De La Cruz, aged 27, brings immediate power to the Pirates' lineup. In the current season, he has achieved 18 home runs and driven in 51 runs across 424 at-bats.
Trade Details
The trade involves Bryan De La Cruz being sent to the Pirates in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jun-Seok Shim, a former No. 17 prospect, and infielder Garret Forrester, a No. 18 prospect.
Kiner-Falefa Acquisition
In addition to De La Cruz, the Pirates acquired utility infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who has not played since a knee injury in June but holds a batting average of .292 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs.
Trade Deadline Moves
The trades took place on the deadline day for Major League Baseball. Earlier on the same day, the Pirates acquired pitcher Josh Walker from the Mets and traded Martin Perez to the Padres.
Playoff Push
With these trades, the Pirates aim to improve their chances as they lie two games back of a playoff spot, having last made the playoffs in 2015.
