Rapper Nelly was arrested early Wednesday morning in St. Louis on charges of possessing ecstasy pills and not having insurance, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Details of the Arrest
Nelly, 49, whose real name is Cornell Haynes II, was arrested at 4:45 a.m. for possessing four ecstasy pills and without insurance. He was subsequently delivered to the Maryland Heights Police Department due to a failure-to-appear warrant related to a prior traffic charge.
Legal Representation's Statement
Scott Rosenblum, Nelly's lawyer, clarified that Nelly was not charged with drug possession but rather with having no proof of insurance from 2018. He stated that the warrant issued was from December 2023 without any notification to Nelly.
Concerns about Officer Conduct
Rosenblum expressed concerns over the conduct of the arresting officer, alleging that Nelly was unjustly targeted after winning a certain amount at a casino, which led to a background check and subsequent search that resulted in the discovery of the alleged ecstasy.
Confident in Case Dismissal
Rosenblum is confident that this case will not progress, asserting that the officer's actions were unwarranted, and he plans to seek an inquiry into the officer's behavior during the incident.
