U.S. Government Partnership on the Mpox Response
The United States Government has been closely monitoring the spread of clade I mpox in the DRC and neighboring countries since 2023, working with local and international health partners to reduce the impact of the outbreak. With over $2.65 billion allocated in health funding, the U.S. is enhancing preparedness and response, including donating 50,000 doses of the JYNNEOS vaccine to DRC.
Mpox Preparedness for the United States
The risk to the U.S. public from clade I mpox is currently very low, with no known cases in the country. The U.S. has established a robust surveillance system to rapidly detect and manage cases, and encourages vaccination with the JYNNEOS vaccine for those at high risk. Updates have been provided to medical professionals regarding detection protocols for individuals recently in affected areas.
