New AI tools are helping physicians take notes, identify disease and more.
Kingsport-based entrepreneur Wesley Combs developed Phiniti AI, a program that listens to and transcribes clinic visits into notes for physicians and patients. This tool saves doctors hours of charting time, allowing them to see more patients and engage in more face-to-face interactions. Phiniti AI is HIPAA compliant, encrypts all information, and does not store audio files, ensuring patient privacy.
About 250 Ballad Health physicians utilize AI listening tools to record patient interactions, which significantly saves time. Ballad Health is actively evaluating AI tools for effectiveness and continuous good decision-making. They are piloting programs such as one that identifies undiagnosed aortic disease in CAT scans for early intervention and a 'telesitter' system that monitors hospital patients to prevent falls. Ballad's strategy emphasizes AI assisting clinicians rather than making diagnoses, aiming for better patient outcomes and experiences without direct AI involvement being evident to the patient.
