Florida lawyers will soon have free access to an artificial intelligence platform designed specifically for legal work, making The Florida Bar the first state bar in the nation to offer complimentary legal AI as a member benefit. The Preferred Bar Program, launched June 16 in partnership with Clio during the Bar Convention in Orlando, will provide eligible members with four months of unlimited access to Clio Work, followed by limited access for the duration of the agreement.

The Florida Bar has launched a new Preferred Bar Program in partnership with Clio, offering Florida lawyers free access to Clio Work, an artificial intelligence platform tailored for legal tasks. This makes Florida the first state bar to provide complimentary legal AI as a member benefit. The program includes four months of unlimited access, followed by limited access for the duration of the agreement.
The Florida Bar's Commitment to Responsible AI
Rosalyn Sia Baker-Barnes, the Bar’s immediate past president, emphasized the commitment to ensuring members can responsibly navigate new technology, noting that the collaboration with Clio provides access to legal AI built for lawyers' work, along with necessary training. Terry Hill, director of the Bar’s Programs Division, expressed enthusiasm for adding Clio Work, highlighting the long-standing successful relationship with Clio.
Exclusive Member Benefits and Training
Eligible Florida Bar members will receive four months of full, unlimited access to Clio Work, Clio’s AI-powered legal workspace. Following this period, members will retain continued limited access. The program also includes a structured training program on the responsible and ethical use of legal AI, featuring live and on-demand sessions specifically designed for Florida lawyers, and offers a certification path upon completion.
Clio Work: Secure and Law-Grounded AI
Philip Rosenthal, head of bar and academic partnerships at Clio, explained that Clio Work is designed to mitigate ethical and confidentiality risks often associated with generic AI tools. It achieves this by utilizing Clio’s extensive library of over one billion primary legal documents spanning all 50 states and federal jurisdictions. By incorporating a lawyer’s specific matter details, Clio Work delivers highly relevant, precise, and personalized law-based research, analysis, and strategy.
