A global survey reveals executives are optimistic about AI's growth but anxious about its risks and potential for mistakes.
AI's Dual Nature: Optimism and Anxiety
Artificial intelligence is eliciting a polarized response across various sectors globally. Businesses, universities, and other organizations in the U.S. and worldwide are experiencing a sense of optimism regarding AI's potential for driving significant growth and enhancing operational efficiency. This positive outlook is, however, balanced by an underlying current of anxiety, stemming from concerns about the inherent risks associated with AI deployment and the potential for errors or unintended negative consequences within their operations.
Origin of the Global AI Perception Survey
The aforementioned insights into executive perceptions of artificial intelligence, highlighting both its burgeoning opportunities and considerable risks, are drawn from a comprehensive global analysis. This specific survey, titled “Executive Perceptions of Artificial Intelligence Opportunities and Risks: A Global Analysis”, was a collaborative research effort. It was jointly conducted by the North Carolina State University Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Initiative, in partnership with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (CIMA), thereby establishing its broad professional and academic foundation.
