Mr Rodriguez says the two broke off contact in 2019, but Mr Perry would occasionally reach out afterwards.
Hollywood filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry is facing a new sexual assault lawsuit from actor Mario Rodriguez, known for his role in the 2016 film 'Boo! A Madea Halloween.' Rodriguez is seeking at least $77 million in damages, alleging sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress stemming from multiple incidents at Perry's Los Angeles home over several years. The lawsuit claims their initial meeting in 2015, facilitated through a gym trainer, led to invitations to Perry's home for acting discussions, where the alleged assaults occurred. Incidents described include a 2018 event where Perry allegedly 'tightly hugged' Rodriguez and grabbed his genitals, and another where Perry placed his hand on Rodriguez's leg, rubbing his inner thigh while insisting 'It's okay.' Contact between the two ceased in 2019, although Perry reportedly reached out on occasion thereafter. Rodriguez decided to pursue legal action after learning about a similar $260 million lawsuit filed by actor Derek Dixon in June 2025, who also accused Perry of sexual harassment, assault, and retaliation during their work on the BET series 'The Oval.' Rodriguez's complaint also targets Lionsgate, the film's distributor, accusing the studio of overlooking Perry's alleged misconduct. He contends that Perry continues to exploit his influence over aspiring actors and must be held accountable. Perry's attorney, Alex Spiro, has dismissed Rodriguez's claims as 'an old, unfounded demand' motivated by financial gain, noting a previous unsuccessful filing by the same lawyer. Despite this, Rodriguez’s lawyer, Jonathan Delshad, affirmed his client's readiness to present the case in court, with Rodriguez determined to expose what he describes as Perry's abuse of power towards hopeful actors.
