Discerning AI brings people together to consider how ethical discernment can guide AI’s use in classrooms, research, campus operations and society.
Marquette University's Center for Data Ethics has launched 'Discerning AI,' an interdisciplinary community of practice focused on exploring artificial intelligence through the lens of Marquette’s Catholic, Jesuit mission. This initiative aims to gather faculty, staff, students, and community partners to discuss how ethical discernment can guide the responsible use of AI in academic settings, research, campus operations, and broader society. Participants will engage in conversations, workshops, and collaborative projects to share experiences, address ethical questions, and develop practical resources that uphold human dignity and promote the common good. The program welcomes anyone interested in AI, from current users to those examining its societal impacts, fostering cross-disciplinary learning and shaping Marquette’s institutional approach to AI. Discerning AI is funded by an Explorer Challenge from the Office of Research and Innovation.
