The Board of Trustees will learn about the University’s ongoing efforts to integrate and engage with AI, as well as hear from faculty and students from the sports administration program.
Ohio University's Executive Vice President and Provost Don Leo, along with other faculty members, will present on the University's AI readiness, its differentiators in AI for teaching and learning, key institutional risks in AI adoption, and proposed initiatives and investments. The presentation will cover how OHIO prepares students for an AI-driven future through curriculum and credentialing, faculty and staff development focused on teaching excellence, and a decentralized approach to AI adoption that emphasizes "human-first AI" for critical thinking and ethical use. Plans to expand the AI Fellows program and deepen industry partnerships for experiential learning will also be outlined.
EVPP Leo, Jim Strode (associate dean in the College of Business), and Lamar Reams (chair of Sports Administration) will provide a historical overview of Ohio University's Sports Administration program, recognized as the world's first of its kind. They will discuss the program's current state, including its student body composition and strong emphasis on hands-on, experiential learning. First-year MBA–MSA students will also present their real-world experiences gained through the program to the Board.
Provost Leo and David Koonce, dean of the Graduate College, will discuss the critical role of doctoral degree programs in advancing Ohio University's research mission, scholarly reputation, and public impact, particularly in relation to Carnegie’s R1 Classification. The presentation will highlight OHIO’s doctoral outcomes in comparison to national trends and introduce two initiatives: Doctoral Milestone Tracking for consistent visibility into student progress, and the Konneker Grant-supported Dissertation Writing Support Program for community-based support for doctoral, master’s, and Honors Tutorial College students.
Jon Cozad, senior advisor for Design and Construction, will provide an update on facility projects. This includes the start of construction for projects like Grosvenor Hall Renovation Phase I, OU C Bennett Hall Storm Improvements, and West Green Chilled Water Plant Upgrades. Progress on ongoing projects such as Bush Airport New Hangar Construction, Chilled Water Plant 3 Expansion, and McDavis Hall will be highlighted. Finally, projects that have reached substantial completion, including Bentley Hall and Bentley Annex HVAC and Controls, and Copeland Hall HVAC and Controls, will be mentioned.
