The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has provided all its employees with access to six artificial intelligence (AI) platforms by leveraging governmentwide OneGov deals. OPM CIO Adam Starr reported that over 70% of the agency's workforce is actively utilizing at least one of these approved AI tools, highlighting the success of this rapid innovation strategy.
OPM's employees now have access to a suite of six prominent AI tools: Google's Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, xAI’s Grok, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Perplexity AI. This diverse offering aims to equip the workforce with a variety of advanced AI capabilities.
The decision to offer a multi-model approach with various AI platforms is intentional, according to Starr. It allows employees to continuously access the best available tools as AI technology rapidly evolves and vendors frequently update their offerings, fostering a competitive environment for innovation.
Starr emphasized the critical role of GSA's OneGov agreements, especially for smaller agencies like OPM, which lack the purchasing power of larger departments. These agreements provide significant benefits, such as the new OpenAI deal that eliminates platform-access fees and offers a 50% discount on token-based ChatGPT usage, ensuring continued access to advanced AI tools economically.
