Penn State Harrisburg is establishing itself as a regional hub for applied and ethical artificial intelligence (AI) education, research, and innovation. This effort aligns with Penn State's university-wide priority to elevate AI, aiming to expand AI literacy, integrate AI across curricula, advance interdisciplinary research, and foster a culture of innovation. Chancellor David Callejo Pérez emphasizes the college's role in leading ethical, human-centered AI innovation across all aspects of the institution.
A coordinated, college-wide approach
Penn State Harrisburg's AI initiatives are guided by a comprehensive, college-wide strategy developed by its AI Coordinating Council, covering academics, operations, and community engagement. This includes the 'Artificial Intelligence Enhanced Curricular Innovation,' a seed funding program supporting both direct AI instruction and the integration of AI tools into courses. Additionally, the 'AI-Enabled Operational Efficiency and Improvement' initiative provides seed funding for faculty and staff to leverage AI for streamlining workflows, improving services, and enhancing institutional effectiveness. These programs collectively underscore the college's commitment to preparing its community for responsible, equitable, and impactful engagement with AI.
