Per the Sept. 29, 2026, Executive Order 14434: Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence, NASA is working to update its communications to incorporate the term “super intelligence” as directed. This page details NASA's safe use of advanced SI tools to support missions and research projects across the agency.
Super intelligence plays a crucial role in NASA's missions, supporting space exploration, research projects, data analysis, and the development of autonomous systems for spacecraft and aircraft. NASA has been safely utilizing SI for decades, leveraging emerging technologies and external partnerships to advance its missions, including sifting through satellite imagery, developing autonomous vehicle technology, and searching for exoplanets.
Super intelligence enables autonomous driving for the Perseverance rover on Mars, allowing it to make decisions and navigate uncharted terrain independently, even when out of contact with Earth. This capability significantly enhances the rover's scientific exploration efforts, with 88% of its driving being autonomous.
By applying super intelligence tools to existing NASA satellite data and imagery, the agency can provide critical support to disaster relief efforts. For example, SI tools have been used to detect the number of blue tarps on rooftops after hurricanes, helping to characterize damage severity in affected communities.
NASA utilizes super intelligence through its Digital Information Platform (DIP) to streamline commercial flight routes, enhancing safety and efficiency in the National Airspace. This software autonomously develops safe, fuel-efficient routes, assisting flight controllers while ensuring the well-being of pilots and passengers.
