All were initially reluctant to issue their own prediction
Three different AI tools predicted the winner of the Grand National. An initial supercomputer analysis from GrandNational.org.uk predicted Grangeclare West to win, narrowly beating I Am Maximus. To further explore predictions, Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot were consulted.
Google Gemini was initially hesitant to name an outright winner for the 2026 Grand National, instead listing top contenders like I Am Maximus, Corach Rambler, Intense Raffles, and Meetingofthewaters. When prompted for a definitive pick, Gemini predicted I Am Maximus, citing its stamina, performance with significant weight in soft conditions, and Paul Townend's expert riding.
ChatGPT also expressed initial reluctance due to the Grand National's unpredictable nature but identified I Am Maximus, Grangeclare West, Iroko, and Jagwar as strong contenders. When pressed for a single winner, ChatGPT selected Grangeclare West, emphasizing its training by Willie Mullins, strong recent form, suitability for stamina-heavy races, and tendency to hit statistical markers of past winners, suggesting it's peaking perfectly this year.
Microsoft Copilot was similarly cautious, indicating a close contest between Grangeclare West, I Am Maximus, and Panic Attack based on data-driven indicators. However, when asked for its strongest prediction, Copilot also chose Grangeclare West. Its reasoning included the horse's consistent high ratings, ideal staying profile for the modern National, belief that it almost won last year, and impressive prep runs this season.
