A āRenaissance perspectiveā
Clinical Professor Dawn Edmiston, chair of the steering committee for AI for the school of business, expresses her excitement for AI in education. She encourages faculty and students to integrate various AI tools like ChatGPT, Co-Pilot, Gemini, and Claud into their learning, highlighting the importance of critical thinking and understanding how different models produce diverse results. Edmiston aims to leverage the network's insights to bring best practices back to William & Mary and further enhance its AI initiatives within a liberal arts framework.
Building a plane in the sky
Daniel Miller Runfola, Chair of the School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics, has been a leader in AI innovation at William & Mary for over a decade, establishing the data science program in 2016 and recently introducing an AI minor and a new major in applied artificial intelligence. He likens the rapid advancement of AI to 'building a plane as we fly it,' emphasizing the newness and continuous development in the field. Through the CAA AI network, Runfola and his colleagues focus on sharing best practices, discussing the ethical use of AI in research, and building a strong foundation for future AI integration across institutions.
